If you’re looking for a great place to call home that’s close to the big city but far enough to exude small-town charm, look no further than Wylie, TX. This Dallas suburb is located only about 10 miles east of Plano and approximately 30 miles from the center of “Big D.” Lauded for its friendly people and great schools, Wylie was honored by realtor.com this month as one of the hottest suburbs in the USA, ranking No. 2 in the nation behind the Northeast/Montbello suburb of Denver.
Wylie wasn’t always so popular. In the early 1990’s, Wylie had a population of around 8,000 people. Today, more than 46,000 people call it home.
There’s a specific zip code for Wylie that’s really on fire, according to realtor.com. The 75098 zip falls in Wylie and the small neighboring town of St. Paul.
“Homes in Wylie receive 2.4 times more views on realtor.com than a typical home,” the study said. “The listing price of properties in this zip code grew 18.7 percent annually over the last three years.”
Wylie’s mayor, Eric Hogue, told the Dallas Business Journal one of the many reasons his town is so popular is its strong school district. But there’s plenty more that keep people in Wylie, including stronger retail presence in the city, which helps keep residents’ money within town lines.
Hogue also says Wylie was once popular for its affordable starter homes, helping attract a lot of younger adults to the area and new families. Now, not only is Wylie a great place for people to get started, it’s become more popular among more established families and individuals who are interested in buying their second, third or fourth homes. Wylie’s ability to offer a wide range of housing types has helped it attract new people and keep them there.
