People who call Texas home already know just how great “The Lone Star State” is – from thriving industries to vibrant culture to a diverse population, Texas offers a little bit of everything. Another feather in our home state’s cap is its recent distinction as one of the most affordable states in the country. According to a report by Coldwell Banker, Texas ranked ninth among the top 10 most wallet-friendly places to live.
The report gathered information from thousands of U.S. markets, focusing on real estate information, namely average listing prices. The average listing price in Texas was $186,144 according to the Coldwell Banker report. When compared to some of the report’s most expensive markets, it’s plain to see just how much of a bargain buying a home in Texas really is. The report named Hawaii as the most expensive state, with an average listing price of $742,551. Nebraska earned the number one spot on the list of least expensive states, with an average listing price of $145,360.
The report also examined affordability on a more localized level, sorting out which metros are the cheapest and which are the priciest. The most expensive metro was Los Altos, CA with an average listing price of $1,706,688. In contrast, the most affordable metro was Redford, MI with an average listing price of only $60,490. That’s some difference!
As you can see, Texas’ real estate market is not only affordable, it’s a real value when you consider all the great things that come with being a Texas homeowner. Close proximity to major cities, warm climate and a growing business economy continue to attract new residents to Texas every year. But unlike the cities in Silicon Valley or tropical Hawaii, you can enjoy all this and more without breaking the bank!
