North Texas claimed the top two spots in WalletHub’s national real estate rankings, while four DFW-area cities landed in the top 10. The recent study evaluated 300 U.S. cities across metrics including affordability, job growth, and economic strength. Let’s look at why Texas ranked so high.
Frisco Takes the No. 1 Spot
Driven by affordability, a strong economic environment, and recent home construction, Frisco led the nation with a score of 70.72 out of 100. A staggering 47% of Frisco’s homes were built between 2010 and 2024 – the highest percentage of new homes among the study’s 300 cities. This gives prospective home buyers an exceptional selection of modern homes in little need of immediate maintenance.
According to WalletHub, Frisco also has the seventh-best job growth rate in the country. The business hub is home to corporations including Toshiba, McAfee, Frito Lay, and, famously, the Dallas Cowboys.
McKinney Close Behind at No. 2
With a score of 69.83, McKinney earned the No. 2 spot nationwide, ranking third for affordability and fifth for economic environment. The DFW suburb has the second-highest share of newly built homes and took the tenth spot for the highest number of building permits per capita.
McKinney’s job growth – the nation’s sixth-highest at over 17% annually – even outranked Frisco’s strong showing.
More DFW Cities Make the List
Denton was fifth on the list with an overall score of 68.08 out of 100. The historic town on the northern outskirts of the DFW area ranked high with strong job growth and a recent influx of new home construction.
Allen got an overall score of 65.30. The northern suburb in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex got points for a thriving local job market, strong potential for home appreciation, and high availability of newly built homes. Allen was also named the best real estate market among cities with a population under 150,000.
Dallas' real estate market ranked 14th among large cities, powered by strong job growth, significant investment, and a robust economic environment.
Richardson and Carrollton also cracked the top 30.
Affordability, new construction, and strong job markets combine to create some of the country’s best real estate markets in the DFW area.
