It’s a Tax-Friendly Place
Texans don’t pay state taxes on individual income, which can amount to considerable personal savings. The Tax Foundation‘s 2025 State Tax Competitiveness Index ranks Texas seventh among all U.S. states.
Two Dallas suburbs, Irving and Frisco, have some of the lowest effective tax burdens in America. The City of Dallas recently passed a budget with a significant property tax rate cut.
Expect Sunny Weather
How do you feel about 234 sunny days a year? Dallas has about a month more annual sunshine than the U.S. average. This has huge mental health benefits; people who live in areas with longer and higher sunlight often exhibit reduced stress, improved moods, and higher energy levels.
It’s Big…Really Big
The DFW Metroplex is bigger than the states of Connecticut, Delaware, and Rhode Island combined. Dallas has over 30 unique neighborhoods. Fort Worth has dozens more, with over 200 cities and towns making up the greater DFW Metroplex.
Some apps can help you navigate the area, including Dallas Tour Guide, Dallas Map and Walks, How to Dallas, and the Fort Worth Travel Guide.
There’s Good Public Transportation
While driving is the most popular way to get around the DFW Metroplex, public transportation has made considerable strides in recent years. The Trinity Railway Express offers commuter rail service between Dallas and Fort Worth. The DART Rail System, one of the country’s largest light rail systems, covers 93 miles of DFW, extending from its hub in Downtown Dallas.
Low Cost of Living
Of course, DFW is not immune to the rising costs that affect the entire country, but the area is relatively affordable compared to other major metropolitan areas. According to the Council for Community and Economic Research’s Cost of Living Index, DFW’s housing costs and its overall cost of living are both about 3% lower than the average among major U.S. cities.
Real Estate is Red Hot
The annual Emerging Trends in Real Estate report from PriceWaterhouseCoopers predicts that Dallas-Fort Worth will be America’s hottest real estate market in 2025. That’s up from third place in 2024. The report cites the economic diversity of DFW, home to 23 Fortune 500 companies, and its strong employment growth. DFW, the report says, has some of the country’s best five- and 10-year returns on real estate.
